50th Division Avenue reunion takes the cake as 2010 highlight

For many of the early graduates of Division Avenue High School, the highlight of 2010 was the reunion held on Long Island. It marked the 50th anniversary of the class of 1960's graduation, but attendance was not limited to those pioneers. Not all of us could attend, but interest in the reports and photos concerning the event were closely followed. I have posted dozens of reunion photos in Facebook.

We have heard nothing about the class of 1961 holding a 50th reunion this year, but there is chatter about a 1962 bash in 2012, possibly in conjunction with the "kids" from 1963.

Your blogger asked our readers to respond to the question, "What was the absolute top highlight of your life in 2010?" We lead off with the comments of Barbara Taylor Wittenberg (that's her in the picture above), who with the total support of her husband Ken, put on the reunion.

Without a doubt, it was on August 6 and 7, the 50-year class reunion and the picnic. It turned out better than planned. The dinner-dance, the decorated hall, the staff, food, DJ, the whole night was magic. The weather for the picnic was absolutely perfect. We had a catered barbecue that left nothing out. The committee worked perfectly together, which was the key to it all.

This reunion was only matched by the first one in 1980. It was a fitting finale for our reunions, or is there another one coming down the road?

Highlight of 2010 was when my three kids and their families were all together in October.

Creating this blog has been a highlight. It started with just an idea and has developed and matured over the past seven months. Sometimes it's a challenge to come up with stories and photos/art to post, but that daily challenge is a great way to keep a 68-year old mind active. A tremendous bonus is that some really neat new friends have come into my life and some old ones have returned.

My top 2010 highlight was finding and communicating with 2nd cousins I didn't know about on both the paternal and maternal sides of my family thanks to the new and improved Ancestry.com. I've been able to secure a wealth of historical information on my family and meet some wonderful people.

The year 2010 was a good year for us so it is hard to pick an "absolute top highlight". I would say the highlights (plural) all had to do with travel. Our long awaited and planned trip to Peru came to fruition and was fabulous. Our spontaneous and little planned trip to California to see family in Rancho Mirage and celebrate dear friends' birthdays in Agoura Hills was lots of fun. And, my trip to New York for the DAHS reunion in August was a real high.

My answer to that is xxx rated so I better stick to my fourth best thing which was Christmas with my two youngest sons, the first time in more than five years. The first three things took place in Panama.

The absolute top highlight of my life in 2010 was the realization that better than Viagra, Levitra or even Cialis is an intelligent, creative, beautiful and enchanting woman 20-30 years younger than I am. In 2011 I hope to find one.
