Who are the kids in that 1954 Levittown Little League photo?

The photo atop our February 28 post was a 1953 or 1954 shot of a Levittown Little League team. The only caption information was that it was provided by my 1960 Division Avenue High School classmate Steve Mohr.

Well, the emails came flying in wanting to know who was in the photo. Some of the boys were identified in the correspondence, but not many. After all, the picture is about 55 years old. So here goes:

Front row: Billy Bowen, Tommy Connelly, Merrill Clark, John Phillips, x

Second row: George Vine, Bill Astman, Jack Lorentz, x

Back row: coach x, the late Brad Clark, Steve Mohr, x, x, Mr. Mohr

The letter x indicates people that Steve Mohr and I have been unable to identify. Any thoughts?

This vintage photo is classic early Levittown. Some of these kids could have been in the gang with Spanky, Buckwheat and Alfalfa. The boys look so happy, so proud, in their little uniforms shirts. Look at the wooden bats, which kids' leagues no longer use. And check out the tape on Tommy Connolly's bat. Every piece of equipment was a treasure.

This is the final post in our yearbook series. However, one in the works is about some categories that might have made our yearbooks even more interesting. For example, most likely to climb the Azalea Road water tower, most likely to steal cosmetics from Mays, and most likely to marry a millionaire. Stay tuned.
